Driveway crossing

In looping the property, we have to cross the driveway. At the time we were installing the crossing, we were planning to have a garage built. So we had to engineer it for cement trucks, full size dump trucks etc.

I started with 5 4x6 x16' beams. These were bolted together with 1/2" threaded rods every 36".

Then I routed out a grove and inserted the track. This insured that the weight would be straight down on the track.

We trenched through the driveway and put down rock. We leveled and backfilled with rock. There is a track connection at each end that acts as a hinge. Even with the rock fill, the really heavy trucks still get a little flex on the beams. We have had no problems with a lot on truck traffic (rock trucks, delivery trucks etc.

Here is the finished installation. The addition of the crossing sign finishes off the project. It is also a great landmark when giving directions to the property.
